El nuevo Peugeot Metropolis es uno de los modelos de motos de 3 ruedas referencia del segmento y que presenta la marca inconfundible de la experiencia en el mundo del automóvil de la firma francesa.
Este scooter de 3 ruedas de Peugeot se ha adaptado a la normativa Euro4 y ahora es más seguro, más cómodo y con un diseño más impactante, ofreciéndose hasta en cuatro acabados y que se puede conducir con el carnet de coche.
Cumpliendo plenamente con los requisitos de la nueva norma Euro 4, integra un nuevo motor PowerMotion 400cc LFE (Low Friction Efficiency) que permite el filtrado de vibraciones para reducir las emisiones sonoras con un ahorro significativo en el consumo de combustible, garantizando un excelente rendimiento del motor.
Con una potencia de 35,6 CV a 7.250 rpm y un par motor máximo de 38,1 Nm a 5.750 rpm, la velocidad máxima del Peugeot Metropolis 400 es de 135 km/h, según anuncia la marca francés. Esto prueba el buen funcionamiento del motor y que desde sus presentación ha conseguido muy buenas opiniones por sus propietarios.
El Peugeot Metropolis 400 Active es el modelo base de los cuatro disponibles, los cuales comparten la misma parte ciclo y equipo de suspensiones conformado por el sistema de suspensión delantera Dual Tilting Wheels (DTW) con paralelogramo deformable con ruedas interconectadas.
Peugeot Scooters ha dotado a este modelo con un doble amortiguador en la parte trasera el cual se puede regular en cuatro posiciones de precarga para adaparlo al tipo de uso o carga.
A nivel del equipo de frenos si que existe diferencia entre la versión del Peugeot Metropolis 400 Active y las RS / RX-R / Allure. El primero llega equipado con frenada combinada SBC (Synchro Braking Concept) y doble disco de 200 mm, mientras que las otras tres versiones disponen de ABS y dos discos frontales de 240 mm.
El nuevo Metropolis 400 está equipado con ABS; desarrollado en colaboración con Continental y Nissin. Este sistema mejora la seguridad del conductor, lo que permite una reducción de la distancia de frenado del 23% a 50 km/h en comparación con el SBC (frenado combinado).
Otra de las diferencias entre la versión del Peugeot Metropolis 400 Active y las RS / RX-R / Allure es la adopción del TCS (Traction Control System), que asegura la tracción de las ruedas traseras durante la aceleración – asegurando un mejor agarre – y se adapta a las condiciones de conducción del conductor y que trabaja junto con el ABS.
Por el lado de la comodidad, el nuevo Peugeot Metropolis 400 garantiza un mejor agarre de este scooter de 3 ruedas en carretera gracias también al chasis más rígido y a la suspensión revisada, que protege al conductor de las irregularidades de del asfalto.
Por último, la elección de las ruedas de 13 pulgadas mejora enormemente la estabilidad y el manejo, mientras que la versión Active, monta llantas delanteras de 12 pulgadas y neumáticos de 120/70 – 12.
Este nuevo scooter de tres ruedas de Peugeot, ya perfectamente equipado tecnológicamente, mantiene todas las características que han determinado su éxito de ventas en toda Europa.
Smart-Key para la puesta en marcha a distancia, sistema de gestión y control de la presión de los neumáticos, faros diurnos (Day Running Light) para garantizar una mayor visibilidad y seguridad, toma de 12 V / USB en la guantera, capacidad de carga para un casco jet bajo el asiento y un casco integral en el portón trasero.
Peugeot Scooters ha ido más allá y ha completado el ya extenso equipamiento del Metropolis 400 gracias a su experiencia automovilística, y convirtió a este scooter de 3 ruedas en el primero del mundo en equipar el sistema de activación de luces de emergencia en caso de frenada repentina. Este sistema de seguridad se activa a velocidades superiores a 50 km/h en caso de una fuerte desaceleración superior a 6 m/s.
Entre los modelos rivales del Metropolis 400 habría que mencionar al Piaggio MP3 500 LT, Quadro3, Piaggio MP3 300 Yourban LT o el Yamaha Tricity 125 además, la nueva moto de 3 ruedas Yamaha Niken.
Is the Peugeot Metropolis RX-R 400i better than a bike?
Tilting three-wheel scooters have been around for a decade or more – stroll through Paris or along the French Riviera, and you’ll see loads of them, plus a few in London. You can drive them on a car licence (the law doesn’t even require a CBT) and the twin front wheels promise more grip and stability than any two-wheeler, while keeping the fun of heeling round corners.
Peugeot’s Metropolis is challenging the market leading Piaggio MP3 with a new engine for 2017, plus uprated brakes, suspension and plenty more under-the-skin changes. The PowerMotion 400cc 4-valve single musters 35.6bhp and claims a boost in low-speed torque. The Metropolis has always had ABS, but now there’s two-mode traction control as well, plus bigger discs and a two-pot rear caliper. Bigger 13-inch front wheels are said to lighten the steering, with revised spring and damper rates to keep it all under control.

To look at the latest Metro, you wouldn’t believe any of that, because it looks exactly like the old one – there’s a family resemblance to a mid-size Peugeot car, which may or may not be a good idea, depending on your point of view.
If you’ve never ridden one of these tilting trikes before, then do try one, because they can be a hoot to ride, especially in traffic. Although they tilt, you can lock them upright at a standstill, and sit at red lights, feet up. Then twist the grip, it unlocks and you’re away without having touched the ground.
The Metropolis is a big old beast, with 1555mm wheelbase and 256kg all-up weight, so it’s not as nimble as a little 125. But it’s still narrow enough to filter through scooter-sized gaps and the lowish seat makes it easy enough to paddle into parking bays. 35.6bhp and 256 kilos doesn’t sound like a recipe for sparkling performance, but the Metro is quicker than you might think on the open road. The power delivery is smooth and twist the grip right back for instant overtaking performance, certainly enough to despatch the odd white van on the twisty coast road between Cannes and Frejus.
In fact, the Peugeot handles very well. The front end does feel a little heavier and more deliberate than that on a bike, but the payback is brilliant stability and a refusal to be fazed by mid-corner bumps or braking. It’s all about confidence, and the Metropolis delivers that in spades. That’s backed up by supple suspension (a single spring/damper at the front and twin rear shocks) and very powerful brakes – these are linked if you use the foot pedal (which is more effective than that on the arch-rival MP3), unlinked on the bar levers, which have more feel.
Detailing is good, with a hugely informative dash, decent (though not class leading) underseat space and a smart key which doesn’t need be plugged in. And though the Metro is heavy, it’s got one big advantage over a bike – locked upright, there’s no need to balance it while the pillion climbs aboard.

THE INNOVATIVE INSTINCT
Peugeot Metropolis is a concentration of amazing technologies, whose mission is to significantly improve passenger comfort and safety, thanks to innovations which are as technically perfect as they are simple to use.
One visually remarkable element is the total absence of any ignition switch or lock on the vehicle: the traditional key is no more; Peugeot Metropolis has an electronic Smart Key which is recognised when the driver is within a 150 cm radius. To start the vehicle, the driver simply needs to unlock the steering, release the vehicle electronically by turning the button that replaces the ignition switch and start the engine by pressing the START button and the brake lever at the same time.
The Peugeot Metropolis has the same electric parking brake found on the Brand’s premium cars. Located in the centre of the handlebars, it can be accessed easily and activated by pressing it.
As the driver sees it, the dashboard would not look out of place in a luxury saloon. The perfectly balanced digital display, framed by a mileometer and rev counter, includes a function to monitor the pressure of each wheel, as well as average and minimum consumption and remaining autonomy indicators. In addition, the dashboard is pre- equipped for a sat nav system. Another first for the driving position: the danger button (hazard warning lights) it backlit as soon as it is activated.
The wide and profiled thermoformed windscreen has a new multi-position setting adjustment system (over 130 mm) to offer optimum protection. The driver can lower or raise the windscreen in under 5 seconds just by pressing on it. Nothing could be simpler!

Metropolis: noun, from the Greek “meter”, meaning “mother” and “polis” meaning “city”, denoting a great city, an area of enthusiasm, innovation and influence, whose infrastructure facilitates exchange and contributes to its influence.
Peugeot Metropolis is also the name of the new 3-wheeled urban scooter, which stands out thanks to its style, its compact size and its dynamic capacities which provide a new type of shape: the urban electron.

A real technological gem, the Dual Tilting Wheels (DTW) front axle is composed of a dual triangulation deformable parallelogram, whose precision mechanic-style architecture enables the centre of gravity to be lowered and mass to be better centred. Combined with 2 dynamic drums and hydraulic single suspension, this front axle has independent, tilting wheels that can be locked electrically at low speed.
The design of the pressure-injected aluminium suspension elements also provides two advantages: additional stiffness and a reduction in non-suspended mass, lightening the steering and making control easier.

The solid Peugeot Metropolis nevertheless remains a compact scooter, with a length, width and wheelbase comparable to Satelis which, thanks to innovative technical choices, gives it impressive ease in traffic.
In addition to its ground links, Peugeot Metropolis has 3 disks (2×200 mm front / 1×240 mm rear) and SBC (Synchro Braking System) controlled integral braking for more effectiveness through the left hand lever, according to Peugeot’s braking philosophy. One specific feature on this 3-wheeled scooter is the foot pedal, imposed by engine-powered tricycle legislation, which also controls the integral braking.
Designed to be driven in major urban centres, Peugeot Metropolis has non-spherical rear view mirrors, whose convex surface removes blind spots and gives drivers peace of mind in towns.

Peugeot’s first three-wheeled scooter, the Metropolis, is overdue. The view from the firm’s Parisian headquarters on a boulevard near the Arc de Triomphe must have been depressing of late. Italian rival Piaggio’s MP3 has been a big success since its launch in 2006, especially in the French capital, where the streets teem with the three-wheelers.
France’s automotive giant was slow to spot the rise of the MP3, and has taken all this time to develop a challenger. But finally the Metropolis is ready. Like the MP3 it has two front wheels and one at the rear.
Peugeot is trying to appeal to car drivers with the Metropolis, which is classed as a tricycle so can be ridden on a car licence if you passed your test before January 19 this year.
Car-like features include keyless ignition, usefully large mirrors, tyre pressure sensors and a parking brake that is activated by pressing a big button in the middle of the handlebar. There’s an automatically locking glove compartment and a 12v electrical socket. Between the front wheels is a vertical row of five LED positioning lights.

A SUBLIME LOOK
Perfectly proportioned and balanced, Peugeot Metropolis hints at dynamism, modernity and quality through its fluid lines, its smooth outlines and elegant interplay between materials. But its chrome trim means that Peugeot Metropolis cannot hide its genetic, cat-like origins: it regenerates the Brand’s new aesthetic codes and adopts the “floating” radiator grill that characterises the brand’s new vehicles. The link with the automobile world, which was hinted at with the two wheels at the front, is now clear.
Positioned like a mouth under the headlights, the radiator grill lightens the front of the scooter by masking the upper part of the front axle and customises the vehicle by emphasing its look.
Supported by all possible technological innovations, Peugeot Metropolis offers two powerful 2x55W halogen bulbs and features LEDs in each of the 2 visual optics and in the offset indicators for a new, high tech visual signature.
The boomerang-shaped lights at the rear seem to merge into the bodywork. Here again, the LEDs light up the night, imprisoned between two shafts of light like 2 luminous claws. The dual-appearance chrome and brushed aluminium Lion sparkles like a gem, sunk into the rear hatch like a jewel box.
The sophisticated Peugeot Metropolis also plays the materials card by elegantly combining pearl, metal and chrome.
COMFORTABLE PERFORMANCES
Midway between a car and a scooter, the Peugeot Metropolis cuts no corners when it comes to performance or comfort.
It is powered by Peugeot’s new 400i LFE low impact engine, which develops 35 HP and offers 38 Nm of torque. Despite its size, it has a top speed of nearly 150 kph and is almost as quick when the driver is carrying a passenger.
Particularly comfortable to ride, it provides reassurance straight away thanks to its low seat height, which is measured at 780 mm. In addition to an adjustable windscreen, the driver also has a backrest that can be adjusted by 40 mm at the front and back for ideal support.
At red lights, the DTW concept front axle tile locking system that can be triggered at low speeds enables the scooter to stabilise itself, meaning that the driver does not need to put their feet on the ground.
Passenger comfort is also enhanced thanks to an integrated backrest, profiled handles and clippable ergonomic foot plates.
Finally, for extra travelling comfort, Peugeot Metropolis offers an illuminated boot that can take either one full helmet and 1 open face helmet, a PC case or a tennis racket, for example.
For more comfort, the storage area under the seat can be accessed by pressing a button on the front panel, while access to the rear hatch is controlled by a button at the rear left of the vehicle. The glove compartment under the rear panel provides a 12V socket to recharge a mobile phone on the move.
